Portland!

I’ve been excited about moving here for a long time, but I had no idea about the diversity and little bits of hidden awesomeness. I’ve been picking directions at random and biking around.
.
.

Everywhere I’ve gone I’ve found cool neighborhoods and neat architecture and weird old parks and people doing interesting things. I swear every tenth person I meet is an artist or a clothing designer or is riding a two story bike. *squee* I’m obviously still in the honeymoon phase.

And, sure, I thought the Portlandia stuff was hilarious cause I knew Portland well enough, but there’s so much more than that.

yes, there are hipsters

The court’s still out about hipsters. I’m all for people being silly and dressing ridiculous. I guess I’ll have to decide individually if I think each person is cool or not.

working from home:

It was hard to focus my first week in Portland and I’m still getting the hang of it. Though this last week was much easier. I’ve been setting work hours and finding cool places that I can focus, both for money-work and for writing. I’m still not at 100%, but it’s starting to come together.

writing

Writing is, as always, slow, frustrating, but trudging along. The current novel is never as far along as I want it to be. In eight days I’ll be at the workshop and … yeah, I’m still intimidated and amazed by the skill of the other people I’ll be working with.

goals

As always, I have big plans on the horizon. More writing goals, goals around music and this site. It’s all very exciting in my head. I’m pushing myself again, but I’m still taking care of myself and am generally pretty happy. 🙂

conventions

I’ve been looking at my finances and schedule and obligations for the coming year and I’m starting to plan out which conferences I want to attend, maybe offer myself as a panelist. I really regret not going to Wiscon this year and I’m planning to go next year.

I’m definitely going to World Fantasy later this year (I’m particularly excited to see Neil, Steffi, Damian, Megan and Kat.) I’m looking at Worldcon, Orycon and Norwescon. It’s still a new thing to have time and money to put solid intention into my writing career.

Oh! and…

I sold one of the stories I wrote at Clarion, “Green Paper Heart” to Daily Science Fiction. I’ll post a notice when it goes live.

.

So, yeah

Life’s still going well. I’m writing, submitting, working, scheming. More soon …
.
.

Anyway, I’m off to the coast tomorrow. See you when I get back!
