#$10novel – Day 6 – FAIL!

Maybe it had to happen eventually

I really burned myself out yesterday and i guess my body just rebelled today. I got out about a 1000 words, but was really busy in the afternoon and i just don’t have the omph to do it tonight. I’m going to go to bed early and then try to catch up tomorrow morning.

So, what that means is:

Chris Battey is our first fabulous cash prize winner!

Chris, either comment or email your address or paypal email, and i’ll set you up.
Email address: fabulouscashprize [at] gralinnaea [dot] com

Whatchu going to spend the money on?

Next up: Ethan McCutchen and Nina Kiriki Hoffman

That’s right folks, if i don’t make up my lost wordcount and get to 38,000 words, i have to pay BOTH of them $10. The first deadly $20 day comes!

Also thinking about a minor change to the challenge, look for the next blog post.

Caught up on my sleep, but that means i haven’t done any writing yet. Ugh. I need the rest of the world to go away so i can write.

Anyway…

Day Six: Thursday, May 21st: Chris Battey

Chris, if the last few days are a trend, you should be thinking what you want to do with your $10. For those coming in late, i’ll mail or Paypal Chris $10 if i fail to get to 35,000 words by the time i go to bed tonight.

Novelburns update.

My sideburns still itch.

My sideburns make me frown.

My sideburns make me frown.

Oh yeah, writing …

#$10novel – Day 5 – crackle

Sheesh. What a long, busy, bleary day. I’m feeling kind of wasted and low at the moment. I think the lack of sleep is making me feel kinda blue.

I got through the words, but had hoped to build up a buffer. I barely squeaked past today’s required wordcount with 32,673 words. Soon, bed.

John, if it’s any consolation, my dollar per hour of your $10 is very low.

For you, i give … a sarcophagus!

Again, too exhausted to look for a story fragment that wont burn your eyes out. Tomorrow.

Next up: Chris Battey (and hopefully to build a wordcount buffer.)

#$10novel – Day 5 – Starting

Working on about four hours sleep this morning … because i’m stupid. Had a wonderful time staying up late with writing friends. One was:

Day Five: Wednesday, May 20th: John Burridge

John probably kept me up on purpose so to be blessed with the awesome purchasing power of $10 if i fail to reach 32,000 words by the time i go to bed tonight. Sneaky!

Look for updates on Twitter.

Positive Reinforcement.

Starting with Pati’s idea, the idea of positive reinforcement is starting to inch its way into my consciousness. Ok, fine, it does make sense. Last night Jerry was making fun of me. “Have you ever done nice things for yourself when you meet your goals?”

Sure … i think … shut up!

No, sorry, kidding. Yeah, i think i get the idea. But what should i do? I’m thinking i should reward myself every five days that i succeed. (If i get my writing done today, that would be tonight!) But what should i do? I don’t have a lot of money. What are awesome rewards that will cost less than paying out $10 a day over five days?

Suggestions? Thoughts?

Novelburns update.

My sideburns itch!

After much consideration and input from my advisors, i’ve decided that the connected mustache is, in fact, too much. I think going even further into my already poorly thought out and celibacy-inducing sideburns may not actually make me happy. So we’re going to go with the mutton chops … which itch.

*sigh* I’m going to look like Issac Asimov.

Well, better get to the writing …

#$10novel – Day 4 – ZAP!

I woke up at 5am and began writing by 7. I actually finished earlier today, getting to 30,065 words (1000 more than i needed today!) by the afternoon, but then i got so busy i didn’t have time to post. I really should be sleeping, getting ready to write tomorrow morning.

Of course this steals the $10 from the hungry mouth of AnarchicQ, but … wait, i’m not suggesting AnarchicQ eats ten dollar bills, but … well never mind. Sorry AnarchicQ.

For a consolation prize, i post a monopoly board:

Story fragment:

The car’s dim headlights illuminated dripping Hornbeam trees until full daybreak burned away the moisture. The sun was high by the time they drove through Orlando, Ocala, then Gainsvile. Their pooled money bought them tortillas and beans from a tiny Hispanic market in Tifton. Four hours later they parked just outside of a small town named Melrose, on the Georgia border.
They made their bed on the folded front seats of the car. They’d only had one night sleeping apart in the big tent, but Ras felt shy with them again. The seats were uncomfortable, the stick shift and seat belts poking through the padding. It took a while to settle, but eventually they slept, leaning on each other, piled with blankets and pillows.

Next up: Friend and colleague, John Burridge, who i am sure will spend the $10 on either Pepsi, chocolate or Ceylon tea.
