#$10novel – day 9 (plus novelburns update)

ten_dollar_bill_thumb2
My arms are killing me. I may have to watch out for carpel tunnel. I’m going to ty to take a bath today and maybe try to beg someone to rub my arms.

Woke up pretty early this morning, dragging a bit right now but trying to psych myself up for the complicated, scary and largely unwritten end of ACT I.

Today’s contestant:

Day Nine: Pati Nagle

I need to reach 44,000 words by the time i go to bed tonight, or i owe Pati $10. (I did a little extra writing yesterday, so i need to write a little more than 2000 words to hit 44K.)

Twitter updates, probably.

Novel burns

——————————————-
They grow.

I *almost* wish they would grow faster. They're in the awkward stage.

I *almost* wish they would grow faster. They're in the awkward stage.

I’m thinking about dying my hair today. Maybe i’ll see how the burns look purple?

As an added motivation, i keep a picture of this guy on my desktop.

"If you don't finish the book, this will be you."

“If you don’t finish your book, this will be you.”

Jeesh, i never even posted this morning!

Beth, it is my sad duty to inform you that even though you are the

Day Eight $10 challenger

i only needed 800 words to catch up … and wrote that this morning … sorry. I’ll find some other way to contribute to your robot army.

Instead, i offer … a picture of a robot army!

I’d still like to build more buffer, but i’m hitting the end of ACT I, which is being pretty tricky.

Next up: Pati Nagle. Pati, since i didn’t build up my buffer today, i’m back to slogging tomorrow to keep my $10.

Everyone (except Pati) wish me luck!

#$10novel – day 7 – BOOYAH!

The $20 dollars is saved!

I wrote for nine hours today. Wrote / edited/ rewrote a total of 8000 words. I threw away two chapters and two scenes and rewrote from scratch two other scenes that were scaring the crap out of me

Man, i am achy, sore, fried and wired.

Nina, Ethan, i apologize for stealing back my $20. As a consolation prize, Nina, you get a picture of a My Little Pony ™, Ethan you get France!

Story fragment

(Sorry, am too tired to edit it, so it’s pretty clunky):
———————————————–
The wind was warm on Ras’ face. She settled into a deck chair on a concrete patio in the Jones’ backyard.
She was finally starting to relax when Beth startled her by taking her hand. “Hey, hon. Can I ask you something?”
She leaned back. It felt so nice to hold Beth’s hand again. It’d been a long time. “Sure.”
Beth kept her eyes on the ground, like she felt shy. Ras smiled. It’d been a long time since she felt intimate with Beth in any way.
The falling sun made Beth squint as she looked out over the fence. “There’s a river around the bend. Brian and I were talking about taking a walk.”
Ras smiled even bigger. “I’ll get my coat.”
Beth squeezed her hand, looked at the ground again. “Um, we’ve all been in each other’s faces for a few days. I think he and I could use some alone time.”
Ras’ heart felt a little painful squeeze.
     Beth said, “That’s okay, right?”
Her neck tensed up. “Sure, of course.”
Beth gave her hand one more squeeze and let it go. “Great. We’ll see you later.”

Next up: My awesome friend and editor of Shimmer Magazine, Beth Wodzinski.

#$10novel – day 7

ten_dollar_bill_thumb7
I just spent an hour marking up and bracketing the next five chapters in preparation of writing all day. To get back on track, i need to write / edit / rewrite at least 5000 words, though really i’d love to get through 8000 so as to have a buffer for tomorrow.

We’ll see.

I’m not doing anything but writing, eating, and taking walks in the sun.

Day Seven: Ethan McCutchen and Nina Kiriki Hoffman

Yep, here we are on a DOUBLE PAYOUT DAY. After my fail yesterday and resulting backlog of missed words … well, i’m a little nervous. Ethan and Nina are both good friends, but i’m still going to do my darndest to save my twenty bucks.

I need to reach 38,000 words or i’ll have to pay out (though, like i said, i’m secretly going to try to get to 40,000.)

Anyway, wish me luck. I may or may not Twitter, depending on how into it i am.

See you on the other side.

#$10novel – HALP!

Hey all,

I sat down with Blake and J today to talk about our various novels and work through the associated problems and neurosis.

They both pointed out that i hadn’t worked any downtime into my grand crazy plan. When i bundle this insight with Pati’s positive reinforcement suggestions … well, i think i need to tweak this challenge a little to make it a useful exercise for me.

So i’m thinking i need to fit a few “off days” into this crazyness, reward myself for all the writing i’m doing.

I’m throwing in an off day every fifth day. This will shift people’s day’s all over the place, and i apologize. I throw myself on yer mercy and understanding.
